If you have not yet heard these five women align themselves in a capella song, this is your chance to be absolutely delighted! Members of Absolute believe in music with a message. Their tight vocal harmonies create an a cappella sound sometimes reminiscent of Sweet Honey in the Rock. From South African freedom songs to folk music, from doo-wop to choral arrangements, Absolute's performances take you from the familiar and silly to the poignant and soulful. Gigs at issues-oriented events have included Calyx Publishing, Water For People, LunaFest, as well as shows for Amnesty International, OSU Brown Bag Lunch Series, and Da Vinci Days-Corvallis. Absolute members include: Robin Patterson, Micki Reaman, Julie Williams, Shelley Willis, Elizabeth Wyatt.

Partner's Place - Housing First

For many Corvallis’ homeless citizens, there will soon be a “way home” and we can help create it! As most of us realize, homelessness has only increased since last year’s Second Saturdays benefit for the drop-in center. Since then, a local group of caring and dedicated individuals have put together a wonderful new permanent housing project for the homeless that is well on its way to completion. It’s called “The Partners Place.” Not only is there compassionate wisdom in providing the homeless with a place to call their own, there is a practical wisdom, as well. Can you imagine trying to get your life together when each night before the sun goes down you must search for a safe place to sleep, when you live in fear for your personal safety and have to keep one eye open all night just to protect your belongings, when you have no way to cook meals or bathe?

Partners Place will eliminate these obstacles so that residents can focus on achieving their personal goals. Besides a place to call home, residents will have access to services that can help them with a variety of crucial needs. Please read here for more information about the project. Second Saturdays is sponsored by Corvallis Alternatives to War, Chapter 132 of Veterans for Peace, and the Troubadour Music Center. Alternatives to War arose after the September 11, 2001, airplane attacks in New York and Washington when the U.S. response was to bomb a country, Afghanistan, rather than to seek justice. One of the projects that the local peace group developed is this series of concerts which features local musicians and raises money for causes that benefit peace and international understanding. A donation of $5.00 is requested.
